Olde Providence is the south Charlotte neighborhood built one generation after Sharon Woods, and it shows: two-story traditional houses with attached garages, formal dining rooms, and floor plans designed for families rather than for the single-level living of the 1950s.
It sits along the Providence Road corridor, further from SouthPark than Sharon Woods but closer to the newer commercial development around Rea Road and Ballantyne.
The neighborhood pattern
Streets curve, cul-de-sacs are common, and lots run from a quarter to a half acre with more pine and less continuous oak canopy than the older neighborhoods to the north. The overall effect is suburban in a way Sharon Woods is not.
That pattern comes with practical advantages: attached garages, larger original square footage, and more bedrooms without an addition. A family that needs four or five bedrooms immediately will find more turnkey options here than in Sharon Woods.
Club and community life
Swim and racquet clubs are central to the social calendar in this part of Charlotte, with summer swim teams and tennis leagues organizing much of the neighborhood's year. Membership structures vary and are separate from home ownership; confirm details before assuming access.

Olde Providence Park and the greenway
Olde Providence Park, on Old Providence Road beside Olde Providence Elementary, is the neighborhood's public green space: ball fields, a playground, and access to the McAlpine Creek greenway corridor. On weekends it functions as the area's shared backyard, and it is one of the few places in this part of Charlotte where you can step onto a greenway without driving to a trailhead first.
The park sits inside the neighborhood rather than at its edge, which shapes how it is used — walkers and bikes rather than cars, and a steady loop of residents doing laps in the evening.
Getting around: Old Providence Road
Old Providence Road is the neighborhood's spine, winding between Providence Road and the residential interior, and it carries most of the local traffic the curving side streets were designed to avoid. It connects to Providence Road proper at its northern end, which is the route to SouthPark, and feeds south toward the Rea Road and Ballantyne corridors.
For daily orientation: Providence Road is the fast route north and south, Old Providence Road is the neighborhood's own main street, and the interior streets between them are deliberately slow.
- Providence Road — the arterial to SouthPark and Uptown
- Old Providence Road — the neighborhood spine past the school and park
- Rea Road — east toward the Piper Glen and Ballantyne corridors
- I-485 via Providence Road — access to the wider metro
