Myers Park is the neighborhood that set Charlotte's aesthetic standard. Laid out in the 1910s to a plan by landscape architect John Nolen, it introduced the curved boulevards and continuous street trees that every later Charlotte neighborhood — Sharon Woods included — has been measured against.
It sits between Uptown and SouthPark, which makes it the most centrally located of the city's premier addresses and the one with the deepest inventory of genuinely historic houses.
The plan and the canopy
Nolen's plan followed the topography rather than a grid, curving streets around creeks and ridges and planting willow oaks in continuous rows. A century later those oaks form the arching tunnels along Queens Road and Queens Road West that appear in nearly every photograph of residential Charlotte.
Sharon Woods inherited the philosophy — preserve grade, keep the trees, curve the streets — at a smaller and later scale. If you love the feel of Myers Park but not its price, Sharon Woods is the closest structural analogue in south Charlotte.
Architecture and housing stock
The housing stock spans Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, Georgian, Mediterranean, and mid-century modern, with a steady overlay of sensitive contemporary work. Sizes run from bungalows near the edges to formal estates along the central boulevards.
